Talking Books Studios - Lending Library
The Talking Books’ Lending Library is a Department widely used by visually impaired people of all ages, especially by the middle-aged and the elderly.
Half of the users are in this age category, since it is covers their needs for information and entertainment through familiar and traditional means.
There are more than 4,000 titles of widely varied content available in digital format (cassettes, mp3 and daisy) and given the constant demands by the users of this service, they are systematically enriched.
The significance of this Department for all its beneficiaries is undoubtable, since it offers an alternative way of being informed, educated and entertained. At the same time, the talking books provide great company to the elderly, to people with further disabilities, or the ones who lack family and friend background.
There are three fully equipped studios under operation in our association, built in 1970 and in need of vastly improved sound insulation.
Thankfully, in 2016 we proceeded with the renovation of the sound insulation in the three audio books recording Studios. The walls were reinsulated with special high quality material; the windows were replaced with new ones for high insulation; and the wiring was re-installed. This will help ensure the quality of the audio book production, as well as the working conditions of the Lighthouse for the Blind’s personnel-readers. These renovations will provide long-lasting benefit to those who most need these services.
